  1. how do we know the UK is multi-ethnic?
    1. range of music/foods/shops
      1. the census says so
        1. history shows people have immigrated to the UK
          1. EU allows people to travel and work in any country
          2. The problems with having a multi-ethnic society:
            1. racism
              1. some employers will not give jobs to certain ethnic groups.
                1. landlords will only give accommodation to certain ethnic groups.
                  1. prejudice police officers will be more forceful on certain ethnic groups (stop + search)
                    1. some teachers discriminate certain ethnic minorities
                      1. The problems of racism:
                        1. discrimination crime rates would increase
                          1. can lead to groups like BNP (brit national party) stirring up hatred towards certain ethnic groups which leads to violence and communal wellfare
                            1. certain groups will feel alienated
                        2. Benefits of a multi ethnic society:
                          1. less chance of war
                            1. new people new ideas
                              1. enriching culture
                                1. food, entertainment, fashion
                                  1. shows that different ethnic groups are part of the human race and we have more similarities then differences.
                                    1. life is more interesting.
                                    2. community cohesion
                                      1. how are the government working towards community cohesion
                                        1. making community cohesion part of learning curriculum in school
                                          1. funding research into the best way of achieving community cohesion
                                            1. It is unlawful to discriminate.
