  1. Which are INFECTED?
    1. Red Blood Cells (erythrocyte): contain the pigment hemoglobin, which gives the red colour to blood and transports oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the tissues
    2. Which RESPOND?
      1. Lymphocytes (white blood cells): a form of leukocyte with a single round neclus
        1. Macrophages: large phagocytic cell found in stationary form in the tissues or as a mobile white blood cell at sites of infection
          1. NK cells (natural killer cells): type of lymphocyte and a component of innate immune system, that controls and limits the spread of infections
            1. T-cells: a lymphocyte of a type produced or processed by the thymus gland; helps in the immune response
          2. Malaria is a life threatening disease caused by parasites that invades the red blood cells and are transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes
            1. Malaria's Scientific Name: genus name for the single celled parasite is Plasmodium (five species that infect humans are P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae, P. knowlesi)
