TEACHING VOCABULARY
1 MEANING
1.1 This is the mental image/comprehension that is generated by the grammar or vocabulary.
1.1.1 When vocabulary is the focus of the lesson, students connect the form of the word With its meaning.
1.1.2 In micro - levels the word stands alone.
1.1.3 In macro-levels word is in context and its meaning can change according to this one.
2 FORM
2.1 This refers to the mechanics of the language either in terms of grammar or vocabulary.
2.1.1 With regards to vocabulary, students must understand the pronunciation of a word.
2.1.2 In a written text, the students must know how to spell a word.
2.1.3 Students should be able to breakdown the components of a word to guess at the meaning: prefixes, suffixes and roots.
3 FUCTION
3.1 Last comes how the grammar or vocabulary gets used.
3.1.1 Vocabulary follows the same concept, as some words are more often used in writing.
3.1.2 Some others are more often used in speaking and many words have specific uses in written comunication like essays or business correspondence.
3.1.3 Students must understand these points for effective vocabulary use.
4 STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES
4.1 1. Keep the explanations brief.
4.2 2. Limit the explanation to the task/lesson at hand.
4.3 3. Consider devoting several lessons to a specific grammar or language point.
4.4 4. Address grammar and vocabulary again and again.
