        1. During Ruuso-Japanese war, USSR refused to compromise with japan through negotiations, Japan was allowed to have lower military strength than some western powers during Washington Naval Conference and there was American discrimation against Japanese
          1. This angered the Japanese and further convinced them of the need for territorial expansion to establish themselves in the Asia Pacific, so that they can gain status and be seen equally by the Western powers
      2. Weakness of the LoN
        1. LoN was ineffective in stopping Japan's aggressive action
          1. For example: As Japan invaded Manchuria following the Mukden accident, LoN only condemned Japan and failed to take effective actions against Japan, even when Japan withdrew itself from LoN. Also LoN only gave reluctant help to China as the 2nd Sino-Japanese war fully broke out following the Marco polo inccident where Japanese aggression during the Nanking massacre was made know worldwide
            1. This ineffectiveness of the LoN allowed Japanese ambitions and confidence in its expansionist policy to grow
