   1. Found in the west of Ireland on the low part of the mountains. 3-4m deep.
3. Raised bog
   1. Found in the central plains of Ireland. 8-12m deep.

1. During the last ice age the ice sheets dug out hallows in the ground.
   1. Dead plants fell into this hole which is filled with water.
      1. The vegetation builds up and turns into peat after many years appears above the level of water.
         1. The peat grows up and out of the hollow. It carries a layer of living vegetation on it

1. Fossil fuel

1. A ditcher is used to dig drains
   1. A grader is used to level the bogs
      1. A Miller scrapes loose a thin layer on top of the bog.
         1. A Harrow dries out the loose peat.
            1. A ridger gathers the loose dry peat.
