Found in the central plains of Ireland. 8-12m deep.
Formation of peat
During the last ice age the ice sheets dug out hallows in the ground.
Dead plants fell into this hole which is filled with water.
The vegetation builds up and turns into peat after many years appears above the level of water.
The peat grows up and out of the hollow. It carries a layer of living vegetation on it
