Dublin is my home city and I welcome you to your personalized, virtual tour to the gem of the
emerald isle
Officially establishes in 988 AD, Dublin started as a small settlement, getting its name Dubhlind, from the early Irish Gaelic, which
meant black pool, describing the dark water pool that had formed near the River Laffey.
Our fair city found itself under constant attacks during the Middle ages period, but that wouldn't stop the
city as it continued to grow, even after losing nearly half of its population to a wave of the black plague in
the 1650s
With the turn of the 19th century Dublin saw itself become the centre of the Irish Revolutionary Period of
1916-1923, where Ireland first rose against the British in the Easter Rising (1916), the War of
Independence (1918-1921) and finally the Civil War (1921-1923)
Today Dublin is a peaceful city of nearly 2 million in the city and
surrounding suburbs and is rising above the recession of 2008. The
last few years have seen Dublin become the go to place for major
company's European headquarters, such as Google, Facebook and
Microsoft among many others.
And as always Dublin maintains its ability to attract hundreds of thousands
of tourists each year, all of them drawn here by its Irish charm
The places you have to see
Guinness Storehouse
Its so cool that even the Dubliners want
to see it, so that's all I need to say
Temple Bar Area
The Temple Bar area is the nightlife centre of Dublin, its packed throughout the day
and night and you can always find a nice pint or food there
The Brazen Head Inn
Irelands oldest pub, do I dare say more?
City Centre
A mix of the old and new, city centre has it all,
history, great pubs, high end shopping, and even a
McDonalds for the Americans
St. Patricks Cathedral
Unbelievably beautiful, just an amazing piece of architecture
The best way
to explore
If you're gonna be a tourist you might as well do it right, so
here's what I recommend
Avoid bus tours and especially the hop on, hop off busses. You're in a unique city, don't
waste your time doing what everyone else does when they visit
Do a bike tour, a 2 hour bike tour with the right guide will
show you more about Dublin that you can imagine. Plus you'll
feel like a real Dubliner as you weave in and out of traffic on Dublin's streets
Kayak the Liffey! Its great to see the city from the
Liffey, also a great story to tell when you get back
home, that's if you even want to leave Dublin!
Walk the city, everyone walks in Dublin so get a feel
for the city from the streets, you wont regret it.
Go to the park, Dublin is known for its parks and they truly are a
blessing to have. They are as beautiful as they are pleniful
Getting
around
Cabbies
Its almost hard not to find a cab here, and the drivers are always
friendly and willing to talk no matter what
Busses
The double decker busses are everywhere you could imagine here, they run
constantly and are easy to use. Just remember to raise you hand when at the
bus stop or they'll just keep on driving!
Bikes
We have an awesome system of bike terminals throughout the city. A 3 Euro
fee gets you membership to any of the cities self service bikes and only
charges a small fee after 30 minutes of use. The best part is that you can return
it to any of Dublin's bike terminals
Stop!! Read this part last
Dublin is an extraordinary city that deserves to be seen from the streets and of
course the Pubs. Dublin's culture is about enjoying every second and not
letting the little thing get you down. In the fair city you need to enjoy every
second because that is the Irish way. Don't waste you time or money waiting on
some big tourist thing, look for the small tourist tour lead by a native Dubliner,
have them show you the city they love so much, have them tell you which place
to hit up for a real Irish meal with live music. That's the real Dublin, the Dublin
you need to get a feel for, the Dublin everybody loves.
