3 categories of human rights
1. civil and political
  1. right to life, liberty and personal security, equality befor the law, relitious freedom, THEY GUARANTEE ONES PERSONHOOD + FREEDOM FROM STATE-SANCTIONED INTERFERENCE OR VIOLENCE
  2. freedom of speech + expression, right to assemble associate, to vote and political participation,, GUARANTEE INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS TO INVOLVEMENT IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS OF STATE
  3. negative - rights that require the absence of their violation in order to be upheld
2. economic, social and cultural
  1. right to a family, education and health, to work and fair renumeration, to form trade unions, leisure time and social security THEY PROMOTE INDIVIDUAL FLOURISHING
  2. CULTURAL right to the benefits of cluture, meant to maintain and promote sub-national cultural affiliationnns and collective identities
  3. positive - whose realisation depends on the fiscal capacity of states and strive to achieve thru progressive implementation
3. solidarity
  1. rights to public goods such as development and the environment; to share in the benefits of the earth's natural resources
international covenant on civil and political rights; international covenant on economic social and cultural rights
