1. How and why did the USA achieve prosperity in the 1920's?

    1. Wilson wanted the US to join the league
      1. He went of a tour of America to persuade Americans.

    2. Most Americans didnt want to be involved with Europe
      1. Republicans wanted America to concentrate on it's own problems
        Senator Cabot Lodge made a speech in congress
    3. Congress ratified the Treaty of Versailles
      1. This also meant they wouldn't join the League of Nations
    4. Consequences
      1. Warren Harding was elected, 61%
        Return to 'Normalcy'
      2. Embraced isolationism
      3. Relations with Europe were not good
        Many resented that they took so long to join the war
        Industrial countries founf that America had taken some of their market
  3. Tarriff policy
    1. 1922-Fordney McCumber Tarriff
      1. High Tax on all foreign made goods
        Made US goods cheaper, helped US industry
      2. Changed 37 times by Harding
        Changed 32 times by Coolidge
    2. European countries put high taxes on US goods
