- Types of Muscle Tissue and Functions

Skeletal Muscles
1. the most abundant muscles and are found attached to skeleton.
2. these types of muscles also are called striped, striated, somatic, or voluntary muscles.
3. they are supplied by somatic nerves and are under voluntary control
Smooth Muscles
1. found inside of organs like the stomach, intestines, and blood vessels.
2. weakest of all the muscles
3. main function is to move substances through the organ.
4. these are also called involuntary muscles as it is controlled by the part of the brain which cannot be directly controlled by the conscious mind.
5. They are supplied by autonomic nerve and are not under voluntary control
Cardiac Muscle
1. found in the heart
2. intermediate in structure
3. The branched structure and intercalated discs allow the muscle cells to resist high blood pressures and the strain continuous working.
4. responsible for pumping blood.
5. involuntary muscles
