Stockholm. He's currently 87
years old.
Claes Oldenburg is a Swedish-American Sculptor
best know for his public art installations
typically featuring very large replicants of
everyday objects.
Another theme of Claes' is 'Soft Sculptures' which
are made from cardboard, paint and Fabric. These
sculptures can be found in Art Museums.
Claes Became associated with
'pop Art' in 1956, with Artists
like Robert Beauchamp
Describing his work as 'Brilliant'.
Due to the reaction that pop art
got, expressionism art was
considered dull.
In December, 1961 he rented a
Shop called 'The store' and
presented a month long
installation which he first
presented at the Martha Jackson
Gallery. He stocked this with
sculptures roughly in the form
of consumer goods.
Claus works with metals to make Very large models of
normal objects like: A clothes peg or a safety pin
Before Fame Claes Attended Yale
University and the school of the art
institute of Chicago
Claes formed a Relationship
with Sculptor Hannah Wilke
in 1969 and married in 1977.
