Causes for the Reformation

Short-term Causes
1. Martin Luther pins the 95 Theses on church door (WITTENBERG)
  1. He gets many supporters, but is excommunicated
  2. He also questioned the sale of indulgences
Long-term Causes
1. Renaissance , Age of Exploration, Printing Press and Humanism
  1. Cause new way of thinking
2. Disapproval to the churchs ways
  1. People start noticing that the church is lying and greedy and are not happy about it
3. The churchs influence starts weakening
  1. Black Death kills many priests
  2. King Philip IV esablished the right to tax church property
    1. Popes prestigueand power is damaged through "Babylonian Captivity"
