    1. The young plan reduced reparations
      1. Called off the passive resistance strike in the Ruhr
        1. Introduced a new currency- the Rentenmark
          1. The Dawes plan
            1. Peoples savings were destroyed due to hyperinflation
              1. The USA lent Germany 800 million to help trade and industry
                1. The USA thought that they would use it to help pay the reparations
              2. By 1930, Germany was one of the worlds leading exporters
                1. HOWEVER, Unemployment still grew, taxes increased, farm workers salaries halved, extreme wealth and poverty, and Germany relied on the USA for loans
                2. Political problems
                  1. 1924-29 Germany had a more stable government
                    1. Stresemann angered many nationalists
                      1. They felt that he'd betrayed them
                        1. Some opposed to the young plan
                          1. Hindenburg elected as president
                            1. Leader during WWI
                              1. Showed that many people wanted the old Germany back
                          2. Foreign policy
                            1. In 1925, Germany signed the Locarno treaties
                              1. Had much of their land returned to them (such as the polish corridor)
                                1. Guaranteed western boarders- all agreed never to cross one another in agression
                                  1. Britain, Italy and France also signed it
                                  2. In 1926, Germany join the League of Nations
                                    1. Germany now a greater power
                                      1. Other countries now beginning to become less hostile to Germany, and showed that Germany could be forgiven
                                      2. The young plan- 1929
                                        1. Allies withdraw military from the Rhineland
                                          1. War reparations are reduced
