    1. Montgomery Bus Boycott

      Annotations:

      • The boycott lasted for 381 days(December 5, 1995- December 20, 1956) The Supreme court ordered the Montgomery bus system to integrate its bus system on December 20, 1956 The integration was in affect on December 21, 1956 this ended the boycott  
    2. Little Rock Nine

      Annotations:

      • On September 4, 1957 nine black students attended an all white school called Central High school in little rock, Arkansas On the first day of school the Governor called the state national guard to block the blacks students entry into the high school  The "Little Rock Nine" started their first full day of classes on September 25 after President Eisenhower sent federal troops to escort the students around the school

        Annotations:

        • This court case overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson of 1896 which declared separate but equal constitutional  Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas on May 17, 1954 the Supreme court ruled that separate but equal was unconstitutional  A year later the court published guidelines which required federal district courts to supervise school desegregation
