Studied because Hamer was the head of
a cancer institute and he wanted to see if
there were any genetic links to being gay
as to see why more gay men contract the
cancer Karposi's Sarcoma.
Studied 40 pairs of gay brothers.
There was a region on the X chromosome where 33 out
of the 40 brothers showed very similar patterns of genes in
this region.
Whereas a gay man who had a straight
brother had a different pattern of genes in
this region.
But there were 7 out of the 40 where the brothers were
both gay but didn't share the same pattern. Which
suggests that it is not only genetics that determins
homosexuality.
