  1. Symbolism
    1. conch
      1. symbolises authority, order, power and civilisation. When conch breaks it show how these things are lost and demonstrates the breakdown of civilisation and how savagery conquers discipline
      2. fire
        1. symbolises the boys connection to civilisation. The fire shows that the boys want to be rescued and that hope is still present. When the boys let the fire go out it shoes how that the boys have lost desire to be rescued and for civilisation and that hope is lost.
        2. war
          1. Symbolises how an uncivilised act (war) changed a group of normal, well behaved adults into murders, the fact the plane crashed due to war, foreshadows whhow the island changes the children into savages and murderers.
          2. beast
            1. Symbolises fear and how the boys are still of a young age. Shows that there is evil inside each and every one of us, and how the 'beast' is not the real danger, it's the boys themselves.
            2. Piggy's glasses
              1. symbolises the power of science and intellectual endeavor in society - the boys fight over the glasses, they become essential for survival and when they are gone Ralph and Piggy are helpless
              2. the Lord of the Flies
                1. In Hebrew, another word for the Devil is Beezlebub, which translates in English to 'The Lord of the Flies'
                2. storm
                  1. Weather continuously gets worse and worse as civilization breaks down, storm occurs symbolising the complete breakdown of civilization

                        1. Shows example, reminds the boys of how they should be acting which ruins their 'fun' as it makes them think of the bad things they have done.
