Spanish Civil War
  1. Causes
    1. Very volatile state. Between 1803 and 1936 major fighting happened 19 times.
      1. Very divided groups of people. Commies, Religious nuts, Modernist, Consevatives, Liberals, ect
        1. National Confederation of Labor. Labor Union that would result in striking and then fighting.
          1. Land Distribution. The Rich owned the land and the Poor worked it. Very much like a feudal society in a modern era.
            1. The Military did not agree with many of the actions of the Government
            2. Practices
              1. Military take over. A coup took place in many major cities and territories of Spain.
                1. Franco divides up the Federalist territory. This effectively divided the strength of the Federalists
                  1. Foreign Assistance. Many nations, including rising Nazi Germany, used this war to test out their new military technology. This gave the war a much larger size in terms of what Spain actually could have done on there own.
                    1. Fascist Support. Spain and Germany showed no hesitation in supporting Franco, whereas the other nations like France and Britain did not really want a part in it.
                    2. Effects
                      1. Women. Women gained a major role in the Civil War. They served a more traditional role of nurses but also wroked in the manufacturing sector, which was traditionally a male job.
                        1. Civilians were not excluded from the war. They fought just as much as the soldiers and they were never out of the line of fire.
                          1. Franco would become Dictator. He would rule for many years and did not allow for many civil liberties common to democratic nations. For example there was heavy censorship for years.
                            1. The economy would suffer. For many years, the nation would have to rebuild and return to self sufficiency.
