Resource summary

Hydrogen Bonds
  1. The tiny positive & negative charges on the different parts of the water molecule mean that the molecules are attracted to each other
    1. This force of attraction is called a hydrogen bond
      1. Hydrogen bonds are about 1/10 the strength of a covalent or ionic bond
        1. In liquid water, the molecules are continually moving around making & breaking hydrogen bonds
          1. The polar nature of the water molecule & its ability to make hydrogen bonds are responsible for the properties of water
            1. Hydrogen bonds are not very strong and are easily broken by high temperatures or a change in pH
