    1. It occurs where the northeast trade winds blowing away from the subtropical high pressure cell in the northern hemisphere meet the SE trade winds from the subtropical high pressure cell in the southern hemisphere
      1. Winds are light and are known as the doldrums
        1. Air is warm and unstable as it has crossed the oceans and rises due to convection currents
          1. As the air rises it cools and large cumulonimbus clouds develop, pressure is low - and rain
            1. It moves north and south of the equator, following the movement of the sun
