Chapter 1: Maps and Charts   Basic terms   Dimentions of navigation  Position: A place that can be identified Direction: the position of one point relative to another without reference to the distance Distance: the spatial separation between two points Altitude: the height of an aircraft above a reference plane. time: hour of the day or elapsed interval     the earth Is assumed to be a perfect sphere  Polar north (Pn), East (E), West (W), Polar South (Ps) West and East is called the equator Great circule is any circule whose center is the one of the sphere while the small circule is any other aside that.    Latitude and longitude A point can be located in regards of another one, in order to do so some lines of reference are necesary. We use a system of coordinates to locate positions on the earth by means of imaginary reference lines. These lines are known as parallels of latitude and meridians of longitude.
