It is important to note that the history of the league was a mixture of success and failure. The 1920s were mostly successful, although incidents such as Corfu 1923 indicated that problems could arise when a major power challenged the leagues authority.
It is also important to recognise that the successes of the league were achieved in difficult circumstances. The league was a new and inexperienced organisation in the 1920s and significant members of the international community were missing (USA, USSR and Germany) for much of the time.
