Los recursos naturales
Definición
Los recursos naturales son las materias que el hombre obtiene directamente de la naturaleza. No son generados, producidos, ni modificados por el ser humano aunque éste, posteriormente, puede utilizarlos para obtener productos nuevos o energía.
Dentro de los recursos naturales se incluyen las materias primas, los elementos que encontramos en la naturaleza indispensables para la elaboración de los productos industriales, y las fuentes de energía, recursos naturales que el hombre utiliza para producir la fuerza necesaria para hacer funcionar las máquinas, las industrias y los transportes.
Las materias primas
Las materias primas son los elementos que encontramos en la naturaleza y que son indispensables para la elaboración de los productos industriales. Podemos clasificar las materias primas según su origen o según su disponibilidad.
Según su origen, las materias primas pueden ser de origen animal, vegetal, mineral y artificial.

Rocas industriales
Minerales energéticos

Otro modo de clasificar las materias primas es según su disponibilidad. En este caso hablamos de materias primas:

Las fuentes de energía
Las fuentes de energía son los recursos naturales que el hombre utiliza para producir la fuerza necesaria para hacer funcionar las máquinas, las industrias y los transportes.
Las fuentes de energía pueden clasificarse según su disponibilidad y según su importancia económica.
Según su disponibilidad distinguimos entre:
Fuentes de energía renovables o alternativas
Fuentes de energía no renovables
Las fuentes de energía también pueden clasificarse según su importancia económica. En este caso distinguimos entre:
Energías tradicionales: Energías alternativas:
El carbón
El petróleo
El gas natural
La energía hidráulica
La energía nuclear
La energía eólica
La energía solar
La energía geotérmica
La biomasa
La energía mareomotriz
3. El sector primario: La ganadería
Definición
La ganadería es el conjunto de técnicas que el hombre utiliza para criar animales y obtener de ellos alimentos o materias primas.
Según las formas de producción distinguimos entre:
Ganadería intensiva
en régimen de estabulación
semiestabulación
Ganadería extensiva
no estabulado.
Según la combinación o ausencia de agricultura podemos hablar de:
Sistemas de pastoreo
Sistemas mixtos
Sistemas industriales
Los sistemas ganaderos tradicionales o de pastoreo permiten la subsistencia del 70 por ciento de la población rural pobre del mundo, mientras que en el mundo desarrollado son los sistemas industriales de empresas con tecnología avanzada los que satisfacen la demanda de productos pecuarios de los mercados
El sector primario: La pesca
Definición.
La pesca es el conjunto de técnicas que el hombre utiliza para aprovechar los recursos animales existentes en el mar.
Existen dos tipos de métodos de pesca:
La pesca tradicional o artesanal se realiza cerca de la costa, con aparejos (herramientas) sencillas, técnicas simples y con barcos pequeños. Es un método de bajo rendimiento sobre todo por el agotamiento de los caladeros (zona marina con abundancia de pesca) cercanos a la costa.
La pesca industrial presenta una gran inversión económica, utiliza tecnología avanzada y persigue un elevado volumen de capturas. Dentro de ésta se distinguen:
La pesca de bajura se realiza cerca de la costa con barcos pequeños pero tecnologías desarrolladas. Sus capturas están descendiendo debido al agotamiento de los sobreexplotados caladeros.
La pesca de altura se realiza en alta mar con barcos de mayor tamaño bien equipados que navegan durante días o meses. Estos barcos cuentan con instalaciones de refrigeración y congelación que mantienen el pescado en buenas condiciones para el consumo.
