Scalar Magnitudes
Vector Magnitudes
Definition: Scalars have
values or have magnitude.
However, it doesn't include
direction.
Definition: Vectors have
values or magnitude. They
also include direction.
Distance
A type of scalar measurement that
only measures the length traveled.
Displacement
A type of vector measurement
that measures the length
traveled and direction.
Speed
"AS THE CROW FLIES" is a term used (on a
map) meaning the shortest distance back to
the start point. This means instead of going
around obstacles, you can go over them.
A type of scalar measurement the
rate at which someone or something
is moving without direction.
Velocity
Speed = Distance /
Time
OTHER EXAMPLES: density,
temperature, time, length,
volume
A type of velocity measurement the
rate at which someone or something
is moving including direction.
Velocity = Distance /
Time
OTHER EXAMPLES: weight,
momentum, acceleration, force
Instantaneous Velocity or
Speed
Average Velocity or Speed
