This course covers the topic of urban geography for Paper 2 of the AQA GCSE Geography exam. Topics include rural-urban links in the UK, urbanisation and urban processes. This course does not cover case study topics that arise on the exam.

This diagram follows the Burgess Model of land use in urban areas. Open land is more common further away from the city centre and is usually cheaper.   Central Business District (CBD): Highly accessible Attractive to businesses Shops, entertainment, and offices Central location Connected to public transport   Inner City: Highly dense accomodation - workers needed to live nearby the CBD Few areas of open land Often redeveloped due to counter-urbanisation and suburbanisation Terraces and high-rise flats   Inner Suburbs: Larger semi-detached homes with gardens Cheaper than living in the inner city Created as transport becomes cheaper   Outer Suburbs: At the edge of the city Detached homes and housing estates Retail parks and supermarkets Some businesses move here to take advantage of good transport links
