Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a much more common, and altogether different, type of disorder.
Positive symptoms Delusions, Hallucinations, disorganised speech, grossly disorganised behaviour
Negative symptoms affective flattening (reduced/lack of emotion), avolition (lack of motivation/energy/interest), alogia/poverty of speech (lack of speech)
Hallucinations types: auditory, visual, olfactory, gustatory (taste), tactile.
Delusions Persecution, grandiose, referential, somatic, religious. Bizarre vs. non-bizarre
paranoid Auditory disturbances – hearing things that are not real (more on hallucinations and delusions) Unexplained anger. Emotional disconnectedness. Severe anxiety and agitation. Argumentative behavior. Violent tendencies (more on violent behaviors)
cataonic Decreased ________ activity, decreased engagement or excessive & peculiar motor activity
Disorganised Grossly Disorganised Behaviour: Variety of bizarre or disrupted behavioural patterns Extreme agitation, uncontrollable childlike silliness, inability to perform simple activities of daily living Catatonic symptoms - bizarre motoric behaviours (i.e., extreme immobility, unresponsiveness)
Anti-psychotic medication Thorazine, atypical antipsychotics, clozaril (atypical antipsychotic). Other atypical antipsychotics include Abilify, Geodon, Invega, Latuda, Risperdal, Saphris, Seroquel, and Zyprexa.
