Resumo de Recurso

Fertilization
  1. Occurs in the ampulla of the uterine tube
    1. 15-30% have infertility resulting in 1% of live births
    2. Fusion of pronuclei
      1. Division of blastomeres forming morula and new tight junctions to allow for fluid buildup around inner cell mass = embryo and outer cell mass = trophoblast (placenta)
        1. hCG secreted if pregnancy occurs (secreted by syncitiotrophoblast)
          1. Ectopic pregnancy common in ampullary region of uterine tube or in Rectouterine (Douglas') pouch
          2. No pregnancy -> corpus luteum regresses, eliminating progesterone and beginning menstration
            1. Basal layer regenerates for next cycle
            2. Blastocyst (consisting of inner, outer, and fluid)
              1. Trophoblast
                1. Cytotrophoblast (makes cells)
                  1. Form extraembryonic mesoderm which form tertiary villi and surround amnion and yolk sacs
                    1. Somatic Mesoderm
                      1. Splanchnic Mesoderm
                        1. Chorionic Cavity between but coninuous at the umbilical region
                      2. Syncytiotrophoblast (forms syncytium) Responsible for invasion of blastocys in uterine endometrium and hormone production
                        1. Attach to tertiary villi resulting in maternal-embryonic blood flow (connection to mother can lead to bleeding, often mistaken for menstruation)
                        2. Forms villi for placenta
                          1. Primary villi = core of cytotrophoblast coverred by syncytiotrophoblast
                            1. Secondary villi = core of extraembryonic mesoderm, covered by cytotrophoblast, covered y with each other and to umbilical vessels to form the fetal circulation
                        3. Embryo at one pole
                          1. Forms Germ Disk with 2 Layers
                            1. Epiblast
                              1. Amniotic cavity on dorsal side forms
                                1. Will form 3 germ layers
                                2. Hypoblast
                                  1. Yolk sac cavity on ventral side forms
                                    1. Disappears during Gastrulation
