  1. A computer system consists of: -The hardware - The software - The data -The people
    1. When companies needs a computerised solution to a problem they call an system analyst to over see:
      1. Analysis: finding out whats needed.
        1. Design: Designing the new system
          1. Development: Creating the new system.
            1. Testing: Making sure it works.
              1. Implementation: Getting it up & running.
              2. Business may need an new computer system because:
                1. They do not have one & still relay on paper based system.
                  1. Competitors have better systems.
                    1. The one they are using no longer serves its purpose.
                  2. System analysis: Invovles a detailed study of an existing system & requirments of a new system.
                    1. System design: Involves the design of a new system.
                      1. Feasibility study: A preliminary investigation carried out by a systems analyst to determine if they need an new computer system.
                        1. It will involve:
                          1. Requirment analysis: what the new system needs to do.
                            1. Techincal report: Technology exisit, difficult to build?
                              1. Schedule report: Developed in time scale?
                                1. Cost effective report: New system generate more money than it costs?
                                  1. Budget report: New system developed within agreed budget.
                                2. Methods of Investigation:
                                  1. Questionnaries: to staff & management, simple questions, fast to collect data.
                                    1. Interviewing: more detailed questions.
                                      1. Observation of procedures: Watching people at thier work place.
                                    2. Team Work
                                      1. People working together and co-operating.
                                        1. Effective team member you must -
                                          1. Listen
                                            1. Share
                                              1. Help
                                                1. Interact
                                              2. Data Flow Diagrams, Symbols used:
                                                1. External Entity - Data source or data destination e.g. Customer.
                                                  1. Process - An operation performed on the data.
                                                    1. Data store - Represent a file held on disc or magnetic tape.
                                                      1. Data Flow - The arrow represents movement of data between entities
