Veterinary practice hygiene
  1. General Hygiene
    1. Remove faces/urine - keep kennels clean
      1. remove ineaten food - attracts flies
        1. clean eyes/noses etc
          1. clients notice how clean the place is
          2. Why is it important? How to maintain it
            1. prevent cross contamination
              1. aid recovery
                1. wear correct ppe
                  1. personal hygiene
                    1. wash hands
                    2. susceptibility of microbes to disinfection
                      1. bacterial spores = hardest to kill, hence sterilization, not many disinfectants will kill them
                        1. Viruses = not as hardy as bacterial spores, a few disinfectants will kill them
                          1. fungi = easier to destroy than bacterial spores
                            1. protozoa = not hardy, quite a few disinfectant will kill them
                              1. aseptic = as clean as possible, no bacteria
                              2. disinfectant efficiency - allow contact time (different for each one), rinse after
                                1. different areas
                                  1. reception needs to look and smell clean
                                    1. different level of cleaning in each area according to purpose
                                      1. put bedding on a hot wash
                                      2. antiseptics
                                        1. chlorohexidine/biguanade - hibiscrub, dont use around eyes, works for up to 6 hours, fairly widespread acting, good for handwashing
                                          1. iodine - takes 2 minutes to start working, widespread acting
                                            1. alcohols - surgical spirtit, use last when prepping for surgery
