Homogeneous Mixture - Solution, equal distribution

~Solvent- thing doing the dissolving

~Solute - thing being dissolved

~Soluble - able to be dissolved

~Insoluble - unable to be dissolved

TABLE 15.1 (pg 454)

Polar -

Nonpolar - With fats and acids etc.

"Like dissolves like"

Diatomic Elements - nonpolar

Solubility Curve for Solids - solubility increases as temperature increases, IF the dissolving reaction is endothermic

Factors that Affect "Rate of Dissolving" (Salvation) -

~Temperature - Molecules move more rapidly

~Agitation - to stir or shake, molecules move more rapidly, dissolving rate increases

~Surface Area - more solute in contact with solute

Factors that Affect "solubility" -

~Nature of solvent/solute is the polarity

~Temperature

~Pressure is for gases only

Solubility Curve for Gases -

~Solubility decreases, temperature increases

~Solubility increases, temperature increases
