Las vías férreas aumentaron la economía en México durante el porfiriato, las cuales son, la minería, agricultura, centros de consumo y puertos de embarque.
Entre los años 1877 y 1887 , el promedio de tendido de vias ferreas fue 700 km por año para tender las vias del tren de un territorio tan accidentado geograficamente.
México aun era un país rural y sin embargo ya se habían trazado calles pavimentadas donde circulaban los primeros automóviles y bicicletas que eran jaladas por mulas, también ya se había establecido la electricidad.
