Solubility and Conductivity

• dissolve- to disperse evenly into another substance (eg. solid dissolves into liquid)
• conductivity- a property that describes how well a substance can transmit electricity
• solubility- a property that describes how will a substance can dissolve into another substance

Solubility and conductivity help to determine the types of bonds in a substance. Not all substances conduct electricity, and not all substances dissolve in water. Substances that do conduct electricity involve either solid metals, or metal-nonmetal compounds dissolved in water. By using solubility and conductivity tests, we can categorize matters into types of bonding.

We can place all the substances into one of the four categories. They are also groups of bonding categories.
