Course Introduction: Energy and Processing
This course briefly looks at the topic of energy and processing as used in chemistry. Energy is observed in any reaction. How do we measure this energy? What processes are used in chemical manufacturing? Learn more here.
Course Introduction This course covers C3f: Energy and C3g: Batch or Continuous which is part of Module C3: Chemical Economics. This is examined on Paper 1 of GCSE OCR Chemistry B Course.

Energy Changes
What is the difference between an exothermic and an endothermic reaction? How are they utilised? A common example would be the use of chemical hand warmers and chemical cold packs. Opposite reactions in similar packaging.
-
Calorimetry
Calorimetry is a method used to measure the energy/heat that is released by substances when they are burned. This energy can be measured in joules or in calories. An experiment is described in this module.
-
Batch and Continuous Processes
Continuous processes are often used to manufacture chemicals that are needed constantly and in bulk. Ammonia via the Haber Process is an example. Batch processes are for smaller scale production. Pharmaceuticals for instance.
