• In section B of Paper 2 you will have a choice of 2 tasks. Both of these tasks are called transactional writing. You must only provide a response to one task.

Forms of transactional writing

• When you come to respond to the transactional writing tasks it is important that you identify the particular form or type of non-fiction text you are being asked to produce as each form has its own set of structural and language conventions which you are expected to know and use in your responses, choosing the particular language and structural devices of form that are appropriate to the audience and purpose of your text.

Understanding conventions of form

• Please use the resources opposite to revise and consolidate your understanding of the language and structural conventions of the various forms you could be asked to produce in response to the transactional writing task.

Understanding the assessment objectives

• The assessment objectives used to assess your response to the transactional writing task are the same as the ones used for the imaginative writing task on paper 1 but the focus is slightly different as you are being expected to demonstrate mastery of a different set of skills.
