- 1My friends and family just don't seem to understand that I need time—and space!—to do my work.Remind your friends and family how important completing your diploma is to you and that you may need some space and/or some extra help with chores and so on while you're completing your studies. If you're still having trouble,
• Remember why you entered the program and do your best to stay focused on your goals.
• Find times and places conducive to studying, which may mean staying up late, getting up early, or even leaving the house to visit a library or the home of an understanding friend.
• Take advantage of the Penn Foster Student Community to connect to students just like you who may be in similar situations and have similar concerns.
When family and friends see that you’re serious about your goals, they'll likely give you the time and space that you need, and they may even become a willing part of your support network. - 2I can't find 'chunks' of time to do my work. It's great to have several hours to do your work, but if you can't find that time in your week, taking moments here and there is still going to help.
Work in smaller blocks, such as an hour at a time. Steal moments whenever you can—while you are on the bus or train, waiting for the doctor, or waiting in the car for your kids or friends. These are just some examples - 3I had a graduation date in mind. I'm falling behind and worried I won’t finish by that date.It can be hard to focus without strict deadlines in front of you. Try to get ahead and stay ahead of your work. Here are some suggestions:
• Create more structure. Use a calendar to block off time every week when you will study.
• Set mini-deadlines. Set target dates for parts of lessons or assignments, such as when you will complete the first draft of a writing assignment.
• Set lesson deadlines. Setting a program completion date allows us to recommend dates by which you should take your exams to stay on track. You can also make updates to these dates and goals as needed.
• Log in every day. This will help you stay focused on your course work.
• Look ahead. Identify future lessons or assignments that may take more time. Plan accordingly. - 4I keep getting distracted by other stuff online when I know I should be studyingIt's easy to get distracted by email, social media, even online shopping! But you need to try to focus on studying. Try these suggestions:
• Shut down everything else. No personal email or social media sites. Turn off your phone, too!
• Take scheduled breaks only. For example, allow yourself 5 minutes after each 45-minute studying block.
• Make breaks short. A few minutes is fine. Just don't get sucked into watching hours of online videos!
