WHAT IS A PLAGIARISM
What are the types of quotes that exist and their characteristics?
1.Featured Quotes: these are verbatim quotes that due to their length
(more than 40 words according to the APA) are not part of the syntax of the text (not integrated). They can be presented in quotation marks, in Italic or block according to the citation system used. If
from the APA,
2. Integrated Quotes: they are short (direct) quotations that do not
interrupt the text. They are in quotes and are part of the syntax
of the text (they are articulated to the speech).
3. Paraphrase Quotations: Also called semi-integrated, they are quotations from short sentences through which ideas and concepts are attributed to other researchers. These quotes are not in quotation marks and are part of the syntax of the text (they are articulated to the speech).
4. Supporting Quotes: also called non-integrated appointments. In strict sense is not about quotes, but references to others authors in order to support an idea or imply that whoever he writes knows the state of his discipline.
5. Expansion Quotes: it is a variant of the supporting appointment.
Through these quotes the author indicates to the reader that there is information additional to be consulted.
6. Quote of Quote: Quote of Quote should be used sparingly (secondary sources), ideally refer to the original source. However, when using them, indicate the name of the original job in the text, and include the data from the secondary source in the reference list.
Types of plagiarism.
Literal plagiarism
Occurs when the student copies a text or phrase from a font and uses it
as is at work. To avoid it, there are two options:
1) Quote the phrase or text copied literally and quote the source of
the one that has extracted it.
2) Paraphrase the text and indicate the source from which it was extracted.
Mosaic plagiarism
If the student copies several sentences or texts from one or more sources changing only
a few words, without quick paraphrasing and without citing sources, commit
mosaic plagiarism. It is important to know that the student could incur this type of
plagiarism as a result of careless note taking, leading to confusion
on whether the ideas included in his work are his own or from the source used.
This plagiarism can be avoided using the same recommendations that have been made
for literal plagiarism.
Paraphrased with difficulty
When paraphrasing it is not enough to change a few words here and there
and leave the rest intact. Instead, the idea of
source in own words. If the language used is very similar to the original,
You are plagiarizing, even if the source is cited.
If you want to use the author's words, you have to put them in quotes and you must
cite the source from which they are extracted, as explained in the case of plagiarism
literal.
Paraphrased not quoted
When we use our own words to describe someone else's ideas, those ideas
they still belong to that author. Therefore, it is not enough to paraphrase the text
responsibly, the source from which it is drawn must also be cited.
Quote not quoted
When we use material from other authors and quote it in our works,
we are making it clear to the reader that we have drawn these ideas from some source.
But it is not enough to indicate that the quoted material is not the product
From our own thinking, we must give credit to the author provided a quote to the original document.
What is a plagiarism?
Plagiarism is using someone else's work, ideas, or words as if they were their own, without explicitly crediting where the information came from.
Other people's information is the property of another person (such as a car or anything else we own), regardless of whether it is free or not, or the way we have accessed it (on the Internet, a magazine, a book) . Our words belong to us and cannot be used without our permission.
Therefore, plagiarism is an infringement of copyright on a work of any kind, which is produced by copying it, without authorization from the person who created it or who owns or owns the rights to said work, and its presentation as an original work.
Implications
Plagiarism comes with many consequences, and each carries the potential to cause very negative results in the accused student's academic future. What is often overlooked about the consequences of plagiarism is that it extends to much more than just the accused student. This section will highlight that plagiarism not only affects the student, but that its consequences can also affect other groups such as; other students, academic institutions and the UK economy. The students would be affected by their university career, since it would be considered inappropriate. Academic institutions would be affected in the same way, but affecting their credibility and prestige. In reference to the UK economy, the key consequence of plagiarism is that it creates low levels of individuals with the skills necessary to work in private sector companies, who are the ones who hire such individuals. There are also legal issues for the student, especially if the student commits a copyright infringement by plagiarizing the content of academic tutors. Typically these cases are small in scale and focus on a financial penalty which is settled in civil court.
