SUPERLATIVES

Also called comparative of excellence , expresses the characteristic in its maximum degree.

If an adjective has two syllables and ends in "y", substitute "y" for "ier"

When the adjective ends in "y".

For most short one-syllable adjectives, the superlative is formed by adding the ending "-est"

Only "est" is added to them

I am the youngest in the family.

He has the coldest heart!

Rusia is the biggest country in the world.

Colbie is shier than Adele.

Grandma is sprier than many young ladies.

Her hair is curlier than mine.

If the adjective ends in "e", just add "st".

When only "st" is added.

I am the happist man in the world.

He is the fast runner I have ever seen.

This is the narrowst road I have ever seen.

The superlative by putting " the " + " most " before the adjective.

When the adjective has more than two syllables

When the consonant is doubled.

That last letter must be repeated, but only in the case of verbs in which the accent falls on the last syllable

Madonna is a famous singer.
