It is the process of breaking down a skill into smaller steps.

Task analysis has been found to be a useful instructional tool to initially assess what specific skills within a particular task a student may or may not have mastered.

The process of task analysis emerged from the behaviorist era in an effort to describe the elemental behaviors involved in performing a task or job.
