What do I know about Linear Equations?
Forms
- Slope Intercept
- y=mx+b
- Point Slope
- y-y1 = m(x-x1)
- Standard
- Ax+By=C
- Slope Intercept
Finding the Slope
- M = Slope
- y=MX+b
Graphing Coordinates Correctly
- Ordered Pair: (x1-y1), (x2-x1)
- The X and Y Axis
Examples
- Ordered Pairs
- T-Chart
- Graph
Transforming Equations
- Point Slope to Slope Intercept
- Step 1: Use Distributive property Ex: y-5 = 3 (x-2) - y-5 = 3x -6 Step 2: Use subtraction or addition property to get y alone on the left. Ex: y-5 = 3x-6 y=3x-1 Step 3: Now you are in Slope Intercept form.
- Slope Intercept to Standard Form
- Step 1: Subtract / Add the mx property in the slope interept for on each side. Ex: y = -5x + 3 Step 2: Make sure the slope is positive and if not that multiply (-1) Ex: 5x + y = 3 Step 3: Now you have it in standard form
- Point slope to standard form.
- Do the steps from Point slope to slope intercept and then do the slope intercept to the standard for steps and you get from Point Slop to Standard form.
- Point Slope to Slope Intercept
Types of Lines
- Parallel
- Looks like train tracks, never intercept in its path
- Perpendicular
- Looks like an X and intercepts at only one point.
- Neither
- Not Parallel or Perpendicular
- Parallel
