   • The time it takes for a radioactive atom to decay by half

   • Medicine
     • Tracers
       • Radioactive iodine can be used to see if a patients kidneys are working
   • Smoke Detector
     • The typical smoke detector uses a radioactie source to detect smoke
   • Finding cracks in pipes
     • A water company would use radioactive sources to identify cracks in pipe lines
