Chemical Joints

1. Tensol

   • This is used to join thermoplastics
   • Very Similar to welding a joint
   • Tensol is a solvent and when applied to both surfaces of the thermoplastic it will literally melt the material
     • Should be clamped for 24 hours as it is a permanet joint

2. Polystyrene Cement

   • Works in a similar way to Tensol
     • It is a chemical weld
   • The cement contains a solvent that melts the surface of the plastics being joined
     • This allows the two component parts to fuse together
       • As the solvent evaporates thestrength returns to the plastic

3. It should be rememberd that only thermoplastics can be joined with Tensol cement or polystyrene cement
