DHCP Service
What is it?
- The DHCP is a network management protocol that assigns an IP automatically to the devices connected to it.
Why do we use it?
- Avoid errors due to repeated IPs
- Centralize IP addresses to keep track of networks, their configuration and status
- Allows new clients to request an IP address from the server to join the network easily and quickly
How it works?
- Manual assignment The network administrator manually puts the IP address of the DHCP client on the DHC server
- Dynamic assignment: DHCP assigns an IP address to the DHCP client for a specified time. When the IP expires, the DHCP client has to return it. If the customer still needs an IP address, they will need to request it again.
PROS AND CONS
- Pros
- -Easy setup.
- Makes it easy to monitor and monitor IP addresses, as they are controlled by the server.
- Only the server should be configured to assign a range of IP addresses to the clients.
- Allows to assign IP addresses automatically in networks with multiple users.
- Cons
- The DNS must be configured independently to indicate the IP addresses if required.
- When there is a failure in the DHCP server, the devices will renew their IP address, interrupting the connection and preventing its operation.
