         • June 12: Have almost finished the work.

         • Jonathan tosses two letters out the window along with a gold coin, hoping a gypsy will deliver it to the post office. However, the letter ends up in the hands of Dracula.
           • The earl tells Jonathan that he is free to leave the castle, and even opens the front door for him. But the yard is full of wolves, so Jonathan returns, dejected, to his room.
             • June 30 is the last day recorded in Jonathan's journal. He wakes up before dawn, only to find that the entrance to the castle is closed again.

       • Mina and Lucy are in the quiet seaside town of Whitby.
         • Lucy and Mina make friends with an old local named Mr. Swales, who appears as the figure of a grandfather and speaks a particular provincial dialect. The old man knows a lot about local history and Mina and Lucy spend hours listening to him talk about the area.
           • Mina says she misses Jonathan a lot, who hasn't returned yet and hasn't written for a long time either.
             • In Whitby, Mina is increasingly concerned about the fate of Jonathan, who has not written again. Meanwhile, Lucy has returned to her childlike habit of sleepwalking.

               • Finally, Quincey's letter to Arthur is to congratulate him on his engagement to Lucy, and invites him to drink with him and Dr. Seward, all friends with each other. Arthur cables to answer that he will be there.
