Types of structures

1. Structural elements are combined. Each is capable of resisting particular external forces

   • Massive structures
     • The massive structures consist of large blocks of rock and concrete, the fact that they are very heavy and solid makes them strong and extremely stable.
   • Frame structures
     • Frame structures consist of vetical and horizontal elements wich combine to form a frame
   • Triangulated structures
     • consist of criss-crossing bars
   • Suspended structures
     • consist of cables, braces or tensioners
   • Laminated structures
     • consist of flat surfaces covered in sheeting or laminate that cover the other elements
   • Pneumatic structures
     • membrane of composite material.
   • Vaulted structures
     • of this type of structure are the arch, the vault and dome.
   • Geodesic structures
     • are combination of triangulated and vaulted structure
