1. The Mamlak dynasty

   • Qutbuddin Aibak
     • 1206-10
     • He established the kingdom The Delhi Sultunate
     • He consolidated his existing territories
     • Tried to set up an efficient administrative structure
     • He shifted his capital from Lahore to Delhi
     • Aibak was known as Laksh Baksh
     • He began the construction of qutb minar and Quwwatul Islam Mosque.
     • He died due to an accident while playing Polo
   • Iltumish
     • 1210-36
     • First real ruler of The Delhi Sultanate
     • Re-established control over territories that had got conquered after aibak's death
     • He saved the Kingdom from the Mongol Invasion
     • He gave the turkish nobles territories
     • Iltumish defeated and seized the Rajput Kingdoms
     • Made Bihar and Bengal part of his sultan
   • Razia Sultan
     • 1236-39
     • Powerful nobles could not accept women as a ruler
     • Nobles were jealous of Yakut's position
     • The nobles rebelled against Razia and she was overthrown and killed
   • Nasirrudin Mahmud
     • 1246-65
     • He was inexperienced
     • The real power behind his throne was Balban
   • Ghiyasuddin Balban
     • 1265-87
     • Ruled with an Iron Fist
     • He broke the power of chahalgani group
     • He set up an efficient spy system to ensure everyone were loyal to the kingdom
     • Introduced ceremonies like prostration before the Monarch

2. The Khilji Dynasty

   • Jalauddin Khilji
     • 1290-96
     • Founder of Khilji Dynasty
   • Alauluddin Khilji
     • 1296-1316
     • First turkish sultan to build an empire in india
     • Brilliant general and a shrewd administrator
     • Under him the delhi sultunate witnessed a period of territorioal expansion
     • First campaign against Gujarat
     • He went on to seize Malwa , Ranthambore,Chittor and Jalore
     • Allauddin invaded Devagiri in the Deccan
       • In 1306 CE
       • Was led by his trusted general Malik Kafur.
       • Was easily defeated and annexed.
       • Malik Kafur was given charge of all the southern campaigns.
       • He also went on to subdue Warangal and the hoysala kingdom.
     • He kept the nobility under his control with the spy system
     • He banned wine parties.He himself stopped drinking

3. The Tuglaq Dynasty

     • To improve the state's finances he improved agriculture .
     • He added Telangana , Jajnagar , Bengal to his kingdom
   • Muhammad Bin Tughlaq
     • He was ruler and a scholar
     • He was interested in logic,grammar, science and literature.
     • 1324-51
     • He had a deep sense of justice and an open mind
     • His empire
       • Deccan , southern , orrisa , bengal states
     • Shifted the capital from Delhi to Devagiri
       • He forced the whole population to shift which caused many deaths.He had to shift it back 2 years later
     • Introduced token currency
       • Failed.
