1. Representing the people

   • MPs are elected to act on the behalf of the people in their constituency .
   • They ask questions and debate issues in the commons . Try to persuade ministers and departments and examine legislation

2. MAKING LAWS

   • Government policies are presented to commons as bills
   • Bills are debated and voted on to become statue laws for the government to inplement
   • MPs can also introduce private member bills on issues that concern them or their constituents

3. Controlling finance

   • The commons debate the chancellor of exchequers budget and approve it as the finance act
   • The public accounts committee checks the spending of the government departments
