1. Formation of the Khalsa

   • One day, Guru Gobind Singh wanted 5 hjeads to sacrifice to God. 5 people volunteered,but Guru Gobind Singh brought them out alive. They were in the same clothes as the Guru, and they were the first members of the Khalsa
   • Later, the Guru filled a steel bowl with water, and his wife filled it with sugar crystels, and said prayers while stirring it with a double-edged sword. The panj piare (first members of the Khalsa) were given this amrit. Many others took the amrit that day
   • Men were called Singh and girls were called Kaur.
   • The vows taken were; wear the 5 K's, don't take drugs, follow the teachings of the Guru, don't harm the weak and regard all as brothers and sisters

2. Khalsa Aid

   • Started when Sikhs saw suffering in Bosnia, (in 1999) brought food and clothes there.
   • They also went to India after an Earthquake in 2000 to bring food, clothes and tents to over 5,000 homeless people
   • Give aid to all people, not just those in higher classes
   • In the UK, volunteers raise money and awareness
