The Heart and Circulation

The Heart and Circulation

1. The Heart is mainly made up of muscle tissue

2. An ARTERY is a blood vessel carrying blood AWAY from the heart.

3. A vein is a blood vessel carrying blood towards the heart

4. A capillary is a very small blood vessel, very thin to allow substances to move in and out

5. It contains valves to make the blood flow throughout the chambers without backflow

6. A double circulatory system is when blood travels through the heart twice as it flows through the body

7. The difference between ARTERIES and VEINS is that....

   • VEINS - Have a valve, thinner muscles and walls, carries detox blood
   • ARTERIES - Uses elastic pumps, the recoil keeps pressure high, carries ox blood
