1) involves the analysis of qualitative data by identifying themes and categories which can then be used to create quantitative date.
2) Part one of the process is where an interpretive aspect is used to determine which categories are meaningful for the study in terms of what is being investigated.
3) Part two of the process involves a mechanical aspect where the material is organized and subdivided. In other words counting how many times the categories occur.
The Steps of a Content Analysis:
- 1- Read/watch/look/listen to the material that is to be analysed, and identify current themes.
- 2- Give examples of the categories, which fit into the scenario.
- 3- Re-read the material and make a tally of how many times the behavior of the categories occur. Make clear that this will happen when analyzing for a second time.
- 4- Count the number of tallies for each category.
- 5- Analyse the findings using the quantitative data found, drawing up any conclusions.
