Inhalt der Mindmap

Managing the classroom

  1. ■ Classroom management

    • It is the way how is the teacher organised the classroom space, how the students are working on their own or in groups and how we organise classroom time.
  2. ■ The teacher in the classroom

    • It is the way in which the teacher acts in the class, the movements it makes, the personality and theway of interacting with the student in order to improve their learning. Some issues to consider are:
      • Proximity: The teacher need consider how close they should be to the students.
      • Appropriacy: Deciding how close to the students you should be when you work with them is a matter of appropriacy.
      • Movement: Some teachers tend to spend most of their class time in one place - at the front of the class, for example, or to the side, or in the middle.
      • Awareness: In order to manage a class successfully, the teacher has to be aware of what students are doing and, where possible, how they are feeling.
  3. ■ Using the voice

    • The voice is the most important instrument of the teacher, it has a powerful effect on the classes. There are three issues:
      • Audibility : teachers need to be audible. They must be sure that the all students can hear at the back of the class and as well as those at the front.
      • Variety: It is important for teachers to vary the volume they speak at - according to the type of lesson and the type of activity.
      • Conservation: Teachers have to take great care of their voices. It is important too that teachers don't force their voices.
  4. ■ Talking to students

    • The way that teachers talk to students, the manner in which they interact with them- is one of the more important things.Teachers need to be aware, they should consider the kind of language that students a understand, they need to think about what they wish to say to the students and how best to do it. And they need to consider the manner in which they will speak like tone of voice.
  5. ■ Giving instructions

    • It is when the teacher explains an activity and the students understand, and to verify a student is asked what he said he had to do.
  6. ■ Student talk and teacher talk

    • Teachers who engage students with their stories and interaction, using appropriate comprehensible input will be helping them to understand and acquire the language. It is the way in which the teacher make participates to the students.
  7. ■ Using the Li

    • All English students arrive in the classroom with their mother tongue (LI). the students will learn L2. The first thing that will happen is that the students will translate what is happening in their LI, whether the teachers want it or not. It is a natural process of learning a foreign language. An English-language classroom should have English in it, where English is heard and used as much of the time as possible. For that reason, it is advisable for teachers to use English as often as possible, and not to spend a long time talking in the students’ LI.
  8. ■ Creating lesson stages

    • teachers should to include different stages in our lessons, need to start the lesson off in such a way that the students’ interest is aroused so that they become engaged and the teachers need create a differents activities to all students in a way that they learn and enjoy the class.
  9. ■ Different seating arrangements

      • There are different seating arrangements in class, the way in which students feel influences their learning, each of the ways has its advantages and disadvantages, changing the way students feel improves their learning. all this depends on how the teacher will develop the class and the number of students he has.
  10. ■ Different student groupings

    • Whatever the seating arrangements in a classroom, students can be organised in different ways: they can work as a whole class, in groups, in pairs or individually.
      • • Whole class • Gropuwork and pairwork • Solowork • Class-to-class
