LAIKA

LAIKA

1. On November 3, 1957, the Soviet Union sent the dog Laika aboard Sputnik 2 on a trip that it was known would not return alive. She was the first living being in orbit and her trip marked a before and after in the space race between the USSR and the United States, the great protagonist of the Cold War. 57 years after the launch of the Soviet satellite, there is still information to know about the history of Laika: the first living being in orbit in space. Sadly, the technology of the time also made it the first animal in history to die in orbit. Laika was the protagonist of a journey destined to prove the safety of space travel for humans, which for many remains a suicide mission.
