- Sensitivity and the sense organs

- Through sensitivity we respond to changes in the environment. These changes are called stimuli
- Sense organs send information to the brain.
- Brain gives orders to the muscles
- The skin
- The largest organ in the
body. It tells us about the
things that come into
contact with our body
- The tongue
- It allows us to
distinguish flavour and
identify foods.
- Taste buds have receptors to
detect flavours: sweet, salty, sour
and bitter.
- Taste receptors send
information to the brain
trough taste nerves.
- The nose
- It allows us to capture
smells in the air that we
breathe.
- Receptors in the olfactory
epithelium send information to the
brain trhough the olfactory nerve.
- The eyes
- They detect light so we can see shapes
and colours, and estimate distances.
- The ears
- It allows us to hear sounds.
- The locomotor system
- The skeletal system
- Bones meet at joints: fixed or movable.
- Bones are held together by ligaments
- The end of the bones are covered by an
elastic materal called cartilage
- The muscular system
- Muscle are joined to the bones by ligaments
- Most muscles work in pairs: antagonists.
- Flexing and extending movement.
